Regularly plying his trade at 13 for his club side Mcdowell has impressed the Scottish back room staff and will have his hands full Saturday with arguably a Top 3 Outside-Centre Juan Ignacio Brex squaring up in the opposite jersey.
No other big news from the Townsend selections as the Scottish side has become increasingly more settled in the past years.
As is going ever more common nowadays in International rugby, two players share the captaincy in Finn Russell and Rory Darge, the latter being overdue for an injury free spell.
Strong balance of fresh eyes and experience across the squad, with Italy turning Stadio Olimpico in to a fortress these past few seasons they will need calm heads as well as youthful exuberance.

Look out for the combo of little and large on each wing, Duhan Van Der Merwe and Darcy Russell occupying the trown lines who will have some exciting battles against Italian Rockets Monty Ioane and Ange Capuozzo.
A dark horse for game of the weekend in my book.
