Tom Willis is relishing his battle with childhood hero Taulupe Faletau on Saturday as the pair face off in an intriguing duel.
Willis, 26, was a standout performer in England's 47-24 victory over Italy, setting the tone with an early try for his first international score, while also producing monstrous carries across the first half.
It was a statement performance on just his fifth cap but he now looks set to go up against veteran Welsh centurion Faletau on Super Saturday. The three-time British & Irish Lion tourist has endured torrid injuries in recent years but looked back to his best last time out against Scotland showcasing his trademark bulldozer runs.
The stakes couldn't be much higher at the Principality, given England have an outside shot at winning the title in their arch rivals' backyard. Wales will be desperate to squash that dream, while also hoping to end their nightmare 16-match losing run.
Willis told All Things Rugby: "It's going to be class going up against him. He's an unbelievable player and one of the most consistent No.8's for years and years. I've watched him closely growing up, so I can't wait to go up against him. Any game in an England shirt is an opportunity to prove yourself. You never take it for granted and always want to stay in the jersey.
"We're really pleased that we've put ourselves in this position. The fact that it comes down to the final weekend, all that's in our control is to go to Wales and try and put in the best performance and see where it leaves us. Cardiff is where I made my England debut, so I'm excited to go back there."
Steve Borthwick surprisingly replaced Willis on 46 minutes despite his barnstorming performance against Italy but the Saracens back row recognises the embarrassment of riches at his head coach’s disposal.
He added: "Ben Curry's been outstanding for us and is an unbelievable player. The energy and fight he brings off the bench is brilliant. So, I'm happy for whatever helps the team in any way I can."
